Ise Sea Paradise is a unique aquarium located in Futami, Ise City, Mie Prefecture. The most striking feature is its "zero-distance" exhibition style, where there are almost no fences or barriers between the visitors and the marine life. The facility boasts the largest variety of seahorse species in Japan, showcasing a diverse array of marine biodiversity. The environment is designed so that you can observe the movements of sea mammals and other creatures from an incredibly close proximity.
The facility originally opened in 1965 as the "Futamiura Tourism Center." Its history as an aquarium began in 1966, and since then, it has undergone several changes in name and facility structure. While it was once operated by the Meitetsu Group, it is currently managed by Ise Meoto Iwa Paradise Co., Ltd. In October 2024, the facility was officially renamed to its current name, "Zero-Distance Aquarium Ise Sea Paradise." It has long been a beloved cornerstone of local tourism in the region.
Inside the aquarium, you can observe various pinnipeds such as spotted seals, sea lions, and walruses. One of the biggest highlights is the performance shows, where animals come up to the plaza to interact with the audience. You can also witness the unique personalities of the animals, such as the famous "Dolphin Catch Ball" where dolphins play with a ball, or even a handshake with a small otter. The seahorse exhibition is also extensive, allowing you to observe a wide variety of species in detail.
While the aquarium is enjoyable year-round, the animals' activities change depending on the season and time of day. During the bright daylight hours, you can observe dolphins being active or animals searching for food. The aquarium offers special experiences that leverage the close proximity to the animals. For example, there are unique opportunities to see staff members interacting with small otters or watching dolphins play catch with a ball—scenes you won't see elsewhere. Additionally, there are feeding experiences available, allowing for a more direct connection with marine life. Watching these animals move naturally from such a close distance provides a deep understanding of their biology and behavior.
The aquarium is adjacent to the scenic Futamiura coast. Nearby, you can enjoy dining and shopping at "Ise Meoto Iwa Meoto Yokocho." The famous "Meoto Iwa" (Married Couple Rocks) are also located in the vicinity, making this a perfect stop on a sightseeing route following a visit to the Ise Grand Shrine (Ise Jingu). The area offers a wonderful blend of natural coastal beauty and traditional Japanese culture.

Since there is a lot of walking involved, we recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes. When participating in animal interaction activities, please dress appropriately for the occasion.
Photography is permitted in the exhibition areas; however, the use of flash is strictly prohibited to avoid disturbing the animals. Please refrain from any photography that may cause distress to the animals.
While there are some steps and uneven surfaces within the facility, certain areas are wheelchair accessible.
To ensure the health and safety of the animals, touching the exhibits or feeding the animals without permission is strictly prohibited.
