Imakoura Beach is a beautiful inlet located in Kami Town, Hyogo Prefecture, part of the San'in Kaigan National Park and San'in Kaigan UNESCO Global Geopark. Often referred to as Imako-hama or Imakoura Coast, the area is characterized by the striking contrast between its white sandy beaches and the unique, rugged rock formations known as 'Senjojiki.' The region has a deep historical connection to the sea. During the Edo period, the area was a bustling maritime hub, serving as a branch office for the Shibayama Port monitoring station. A local legend tells of 'Kaeru-jima' (Frog Island), a massive rock shaped like a frog floating offshore; sailors on the Kitamaebune ships would pray at this site to ensure a safe return home.
