Iizaka Onsen Hana Momo no Sato is a specialized park located in Fukushima City, Fukushima Prefecture, dedicated to the beauty of peach blossoms. Developed under the guidance of a former professor from the Faculty of Agriculture at Utsunomiya University, the park features a diverse collection of peach varieties gathered from around the world. Spanning an area of 8,000 square meters, approximately 300 peach trees bloom in a stunning array of red, pink, and white. Because different varieties possess unique tree shapes and petal structures, the landscape offers an incredibly rich visual experience. The sight of these blossoms in full bloom is a quintessential symbol of spring in this region.
The history of this site dates back to the autumn of 2003. It began as a collaborative research project with Utsunomiya University, under the direction of Professor Masane Yoshida. While the project started on a smaller 4,000-square-meter plot with about 200 trees, it has since expanded to its current size of 8,000 square meters with roughly 300 trees. The park serves as a unique center for the research and exhibition of precious peach varieties, blending local agriculture and nature with academic excellence.
The greatest draw is the diverse expression of the peach blossoms. Visitors can observe various growth forms—such as upright, weeping, broom, and dwarf types—alongside different petal shapes, including single, double, and chrysanthemum-style blooms. Notable varieties include Yaguchi, Kanpaku, Kikumomo, Genpei Shidare, Terute Mizumitsu, and Hoki-momo. When these bloom simultaneously, the resulting explosion of color is breathtaking. The collection also includes rare varieties like Joseito and Unryuto, making it a fascinating spot for botanical enthusiasts.
The official opening period is typically for one month, from approximately April 1st to April 19th. To see the most vibrant colors under bright daylight, we recommend visiting between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM. Since blooming times vary slightly by variety, your experience may change depending on whether you visit in early or late April. While you can enter the area outside of the official opening period, it is highly recommended to visit during the April window to see the peach trees in full bloom.
Walk through the park to observe the unique characteristics of peach varieties from across the globe. Comparing the shapes and colors of different species is a rewarding way to spend a spring afternoon. During the opening period, staff members are often present to assist with parking and general guidance, ensuring a safe and pleasant stroll through nature.
The park is located near the historic Iizaka Onsen, one of Fukushima's most famous hot spring districts. A visit here is perfect when paired with a stay at a local Ryokan (Japanese inn) to enjoy the hot springs. It is also easily accessible from Fukushima Station, making it an easy addition to a broader Fukushima sightseeing itinerary.
As the park is a working orchard/farm area, the ground is unpaved and can be uneven. Please wear comfortable walking shoes. Regarding fees, an Environmental Maintenance Contribution of 300 JPY per adult is required. We recommend preparing cash for this payment. To protect the plants, please do not touch the flowers or branches. While some signage may be available, English support is limited, so please check local signs for information.
