Idemitsu Culture Park (Tomakomai Civic Culture Park) is a vast, comprehensive park located in the heart of Tomakomai City, Hokkaido. Built around the themes of "Water, Greenery, and Sunlight," the park serves as a sanctuary where nature and culture coexist. It houses various social education facilities, including a library, an art museum, and the "Sun Garden" botanical garden. The landscape is beautifully designed with artificial waterfalls, fountains, water channels, and a dedicated sculpture path, making it a versatile destination for relaxation and recreation.
The park was originally planned as a "Citizens' Forest" to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the city's founding. It holds distinction as the first "Culture Park" designated by the Ministry of Construction in the prefecture. In March 2016, through a naming rights agreement with Idemitsu Kosan Co., Ltd., the park has been affectionately known as "Idemitsu Culture Park" since April 1, 2017.
The park features several areas where natural scenery seamlessly blends with man-made artistic structures. The movement of water through fountains, artificial waterfalls, and flowing channels adds a dynamic element to the landscape. Visitors can also enjoy a stroll along the "Sculpture Path," which showcases various outdoor artworks. While the park is beautiful in every season, the period from May to August is particularly recommended.
