Ichimatsu Tei is the former residence of Sadakichi Ichimatsu, the first honorary citizen of Kitsuki City. This residence was donated to Kitsuki City in 1957 and once served as the "Ichimatsu Hall," a community space for citizens. Following the relocation of the city hall, the structure was moved to its current elevated location, which offers a breathtaking view of Kitsuki Castle and the sea. The interior is a masterpiece of refined design, featuring luxurious elements such as a veranda made of single-piece cedar grain boards and a sophisticated coffered ceiling in the guest restroom area.
The master of the residence, Sadakichi Ichimatsu, was originally from Miwa Village (now part of Bungotakada City). He joined the Ichimatsu family, who served as instructors of swordsmanship and spearmanship for the Kitsuki Clan, as an adopted heir. Ichimatsu later became a prominent figure in the legal and political worlds, serving in high-ranking positions such as Minister of Communications during the first Yoshida Cabinet, as well as Minister of Health and Welfare, and Minister of Construction. Because it was the home of such a significant historical figure, the building itself reflects high social status and exceptional craftsmanship.

For example, the "mawari-do" (revolving doors) were designed to rotate at right angles to reduce the number of door pockets, demonstrating highly rational and advanced architectural technology for its time.
