Ichikai-machi Shibazakura Park is a vast, beautiful park located in Ichikai Town, Haga District, Tochigi Prefecture. The park covers an expansive 8 hectares, with 2.4 hectares dedicated specifically to the cultivation of moss phlox (shibazakura). Thanks to the dedicated efforts of local volunteers, this area boasts one of the largest moss phlox plantations in Honshu, creating a signature landscape of vibrant pink hues every spring.
The park was established in 2006. The site is situated on the earth excavated during the construction of the nearby Suisho Lake (an irrigation reservoir). The breathtaking scenery of the moss phlox is meticulously maintained through the continuous support and activities of the local community and dedicated volunteers.
The primary attraction is the spectacular sight of the moss phlox in full bloom. From April to May, the flowers cover the ground so densely that it looks like a magnificent pink carpet has been laid out across the landscape. Within the vast grounds, visitors can enjoy the changing colors and textures of nature as the seasons shift.
The best time to visit is between April and May, when the moss phlox is at its peak bloom. During this period, the 'Shibazakura Festival' is held, drawing many visitors. The bright daylight hours are ideal for capturing the vivid colors of the flowers in photographs. Walking through the expansive grounds during the day offers a perfect opportunity to refresh your mind and escape the daily grind.
The main activity is a leisurely stroll through the vast landscape to enjoy the natural colors. It is a wonderful place to take photographs of the 'flower carpet' or simply spend a peaceful time with family and friends while admiring the view. The environment allows you to feel the subtle transitions of the seasons up close.

Please prepare clothing suitable for the season. For spring visits, a hat to provide shade and comfortable walking shoes are highly recommended for exploring the grounds.
