Huis Ten Bosch is one of Japan's largest theme parks, located in Sasebo City, Nagasaki Prefecture, and is designed to perfectly replicate the atmosphere of a Dutch town. Boasting one of the largest areas for a single theme park in Japan, it is set within a scenic environment overlooking Omura Bay. The landscape of brick buildings and winding canals offers an experience that makes you feel as if you have been transported to a European city. Beyond just an amusement park, it functions as a full-scale 'stay-over resort,' featuring high-quality restaurants, shops, amusement facilities, and authentic hotels and art museums.
The name 'Huis Ten Bosch' means 'House in the Forest' in Dutch. It was named after the replication of the 'Huis Ten Bosch Palace,' one of the residences of the Dutch Princess Beatrix. While much of the land was once used for rice paddies or military facilities, it has been transformed through advanced land improvement into a lush natural environment featuring approximately 400,000 trees and 300,000 flowers. Every detail of the cityscape faithfully reproduces Dutch culture and architectural styles. For instance, Palace Huis Ten Bosch was modeled after the Dutch royal palace and was constructed with royal permission.

The park is filled with diverse attractions that captivate every visitor. The central icon is the network of canals that define the cityscape, allowing you to soak in the resort atmosphere while cruising along the water. The brick-lined streets and seasonal flower gardens are perfect for photography enthusiasts. At night, the entire vast area is transformed by spectacular illuminations, offering a completely different expression than during the day. Visitors can also enjoy themed areas like Miffy Wonder Square, ride the latest attractions, or enjoy a luxury stay at one of the park's authentic hotels.
Huis Ten Bosch offers unique charms throughout the year. In spring, you can enjoy blooming tulips; in summer, the refreshing canal scenery is ideal; and in autumn, the park hosts festive events like Halloween. Winter is particularly magical, as the nighttime illuminations become even more brilliant and enchanting. For the best experience, enjoy the architecture and botanical beauty during the day, and transition to the illuminated cityscape in the evening. Staying overnight at a park hotel allows you to fully immerse yourself in the atmosphere even after the main park hours.
There are numerous activities to enjoy, including canal cruises, various amusement rides, and seasonal events. For a truly authentic resort experience, consider staying at one of the many hotels scattered throughout the park, which makes you feel like a local resident in a European town. Shopping for unique souvenirs and dining at high-end restaurants are also essential parts of the Huis Ten Bosch experience.
Located in Sasebo, Nagasaki, the park is surrounded by many spots where you can experience the natural beauty and history of the Nagasaki region. It is easily accessible from Sasebo City, making it easy to combine a visit to the park with other sightseeing plans. Many official hotels within the park offer special benefits for guests, allowing you to tailor your stay to your preferred travel style.
Because the park covers a vast area, we strongly recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes. Depending on the season, please bring a hat for sun protection or a jacket for temperature changes. Regarding payments, various credit cards and IC cards are accepted in addition to cash. While photography is generally permitted, please check local signs for restrictions in specific attraction areas. Hotel guests can also utilize luggage storage services near the entrance for a more convenient visit.
