During specific seasons, it becomes a highly sought-after location for observing the 'Diamond Fuji'—a spectacular moment when the sun appears to rest directly on the summit of Mount Fuji.
While not a site of specific historical buildings or ancient heritage, the area is cherished as a natural landscape of great beauty. The phenomenon of the sun aligning with the peak of Mount Fuji is a celebrated natural event that draws photographers and nature lovers from around the world to witness the harmony of light and mountain.
Visitors can enjoy an unobstructed, close-up view of the landscape featuring Mount Fuji and Lake Yamanaka. The most iconic sight is the 'Diamond Fuji' phenomenon, which occurs during sunset. This can be observed annually from mid-October through the end of February. Because you can drive your vehicle close to the water, you can achieve unique angles for photography. You may also spot various water birds near the shore.
The period from mid-October to late February is the peak season due to the Diamond Fuji sightings. Because the moment the sun touches the summit is extremely brief, we highly recommend arriving well in advance to set up your camera equipment and tripod. During the summer months, the area also offers a pleasant atmosphere for enjoying the lakeside.
This is a paradise for automotive photography enthusiasts. You can drive your car or motorcycle to the very edge of the water to create professional-looking shots of your vehicle against the iconic scenery. Additionally, boat rentals may be available during the warmer summer months for water-based recreation.
The area around Lake Yamanaka is rich with other attractions, such as the Oshino Hakkai springs. Other nearby viewpoints, like the Yamanaka-ko Panorama Dai, also offer spectacular views of the Fuji region.
