Guide
Hinode Lavender Garden is a specialized park dedicated to the beauty of lavender, located in the scenic town of Kamifurano, Hokkaido. Situated at a high altitude, the garden offers a spectacular sight: vast fields of purple lavender stretching toward the majestic Tokachidake mountain range. During the peak season, the air is filled with a soothing floral scent, creating an unforgettable sensory experience.
The area has developed as a cornerstone of Hokkaido's natural tourism, leveraging its unique climate to cultivate various lavender varieties. Because different types bloom at different times, the landscape offers a changing palette of colors throughout the season. Recent improvements, including the development of the observation deck and dedicated access roads, have made it even easier for visitors to enjoy these world-class views.

The highlight of the garden is the observation deck, which provides a 360-degree view of the purple lavender fields and the smoking peaks of the Tokachidake mountains. Visitors can also enjoy a playful stroll along the paths to find the 'Bell of Love' or the 'Heart of Happiness' spots. You can also observe the natural progression of the blooms, from the early-season 'Koimurasaki' (No. 3) to the later-blooming 'Okamurasaki' (No. 4).
The best time to visit is mid-July. In early July, the first waves of lavender begin to bloom, creating a soft purple hue. By mid-month, the color deepens and the fragrance becomes most intense. For the best experience, visit on a clear, sunny day to see the sharp silhouette of the mountains against the vibrant purple fields.
A dedicated road leads up to the observation deck, making it a perfect destination for a scenic drive. Near the deck, you can enjoy local treats such as soft-serve ice cream and refreshing drinks while soaking in the view. Walking through the garden paths allows you to truly immerse yourself in the scent of the flowers and search for the hidden heart-shaped patterns in the landscape.
The Kamifurano area is famous for its local produce. Be sure to try local beer made from hops and barley, or enjoy fresh Hokkaido vegetables and melons. After your visit, many travelers head to the nearby Tokachidake Onsen to relax in the hot springs and refresh themselves.
As summer in Hokkaido can be quite bright, we recommend bringing a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen for UV protection. Comfortable walking shoes are highly recommended for exploring the paths.
