Higashizawa Ohashi Bridge is a magnificent red arch bridge spanning the Higashizawa Valley in Hokuto City, Yamanashi Prefecture. Measuring 90 meters in length and 48.9 meters in height, it is widely known as the "Red Bridge." The structure creates a breathtaking visual contrast against the natural environment, serving as an iconic landmark along the Yatsatake Kogen Line and the beautiful Kawamata River valley.
The bridge was designed with an arch structure to harmonize with the natural landscape of the Higashizawa Valley. Located at the foot of the Yatsugatake Mountains, this region has long been blessed with abundant water and lush greenery. The choice of a vibrant red color was a deliberate design decision to create a striking landmark that complements the scenery while serving as a recognizable symbol of the area.

The most striking feature of Higashizawa Ohashi Bridge is its vivid color and grand scale. From its height of approximately 49 meters, visitors can look down upon the Kawamata River and the surrounding mountain topography. On the eastern side of the bridge (the Kiyosato Station side), there is a dedicated observation deck that allows you to view the entire span of the bridge and the vast valley scenery simultaneously. The changing colors of the seasons create a unique backdrop that enhances the bridge's red hue.
The bridge offers different expressions throughout the year. In spring, the bridge stands out against the fresh, lush greenery of the Yatsugatake foothills. In autumn, the surrounding mountains turn vibrant shades of red and gold, which beautifully complement the bridge's color. The peak season for autumn colors is from mid-October to early November. Even in winter, the clear skies and crisp air provide a sharp, beautiful contrast with the structure.

There are well-maintained walking paths around the area. A trekking route follows the Kawamata River valley from Higashizawa Ohashi Bridge toward Torui no Taki Falls, allowing visitors to experience the geological beauty of the valley on foot. You can also enjoy the views from the parking area or the observation deck on the eastern side of the bridge.
Higashizawa Ohashi Bridge is a key stop on the sightseeing route through the Kiyosato area. The surrounding region features scenic driving routes via the Yatsugatake Kogen Line and various trekking paths to enjoy nature. Nearby natural landmarks, such as Torui no Taki Falls, make this part of a perfect nature-filled itinerary.
As the area is a natural valley with trekking paths, please wear comfortable walking shoes. The terrain may be uneven in certain spots. It is also recommended to bring clothing suitable for the seasonal temperature changes.
