Harumi Shinsui Park is a municipal seaside park in Shunan City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, characterized by a refreshing, tropical atmosphere. Developed as part of the Tokuyama-Shimomatsu Port revitalization project, the park features palm trees that create a resort-like feel. The main attraction is the view of the Shunan Industrial Complex across the water. During the day, visitors can witness the dynamic industrial landscape of massive cranes and plants, while at night, the area transforms into a dazzling display of lights, officially recognized as a 'Japan Night View Heritage' site. The lights reflect beautifully off the sea surface, creating a magical atmosphere.
The park was established through the 'Tokuyama-Shimatsu Port Port Renaissance 21 Plan' to promote the effective use of the local port area. It has evolved into a beloved community space where industrial heritage meets leisure. A unique historical element within the park is a stone lighthouse moved from its original location. Built in 1893 by Matanojo Mitsunaga, the representative of the 'Kyoeisha' company, this lighthouse serves as a bridge between the area's history and the modern industrial landscape that defines the skyline today.

The absolute highlight of Harumi Shinsui Park is the nighttime scenery. The interplay of lights from the industrial plants creates a spectacle often described as a 'jewelry box of light.' Visitors can also enjoy the spacious lawn areas, perfect for relaxing while feeling the sea breeze. The stone lighthouse stands as a significant historical monument within the park. During the daytime, the contrast between the blue sky, the ocean, and the massive industrial structures provides a unique and striking landscape for visitors.
While beautiful year-round, the industrial night view is particularly captivating. The lights of the complex appear most vivid against the dark night sky, making it an ideal time for photography. During the day, the palm trees and seaside scenery offer a bright, resort-like vibe. For the best experience, visit during twilight; the transition from the colorful sunset to the glowing industrial lights is a breathtaking moment that showcases the changing face of the landscape.

The primary activity at the park is sightseeing and photography. Many visitors come specifically to capture the glowing industrial complex against the night sky. The park is also great for a casual stroll along the coast or relaxing on the grass. Exploring the historical stone lighthouse offers a deeper connection to the region's industrial development. The park is well-maintained with paved paths and facilities, making it suitable for families and casual walkers.
The park is located near the Tokuyama-Shimatsu Port area, which is a hub for industrial activity. It is conveniently located within a 12-minute walk from JR Tokuyama Station, making it easily accessible for travelers using public transport. This accessibility also makes it easy to visit nearby commercial facilities and restaurants in the Shunan area.
The park contains both paved paths and grassy areas, so comfortable walking shoes are recommended. When visiting at night, please be mindful of your footing as the areas can be dark. While entry to the park is free, please note that any nearby food or beverage purchases will require cash or a credit card. English signage is limited, so it is helpful to check a map in advance. Please respect local rules, such as taking your trash home with you, to maintain the park's beauty.
