Hanoura Sakura Tsutsumi Park is a beautiful park located along the embankments of the Naka River in Anan City, Tokushima Prefecture. Developed in April 1996 in collaboration with the former Hanoura Town, the park was part of a national project by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism to create model 'Sakura Tsutsumi' (Cherry Blossom Embankment) sites. The park features a large central pond surrounded by a lush canopy of cherry trees, serving as a beloved relaxation spot for local residents and a premier destination for cherry blossom viewing in the Naka River basin.
The park was established as part of an initiative to enhance riverfront landscapes and revitalize the local community. The local 'Cherry Blossom Festival Preservation Society' plays a vital role in maintaining the park through the planting of Somei Yoshino trees and regular cleaning activities. This deep connection between government-led development and community-driven preservation—where residents actively participate in the care of the river and its flora—is a defining characteristic of this location.
The most striking feature of the park is the way the cherry trees are arranged around the central pond, creating a breathtaking reflection on the water's surface. During the spring season, the blooming Somei Yoshino trees create a vibrant pink landscape. Visitors can also enjoy a peaceful walk along the well-maintained paths on the Naka River embankment, feeling the gentle breeze and the rhythm of the river.
The best time to visit is from March to April when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom. During the day, the bright sunlight illuminates the petals and the pond, offering a spectacular view. In the late afternoon and evening, the scenery becomes more tranquil as the river flows gently through the landscape. The park offers a different, serene atmosphere depending on the time of day and the progression of the season.
Visitors can enjoy leisurely strolls along the scenic walking paths to admire the cherry blossoms and the pond scenery. Because the area is maintained by local preservation societies, visitors can experience a sense of the community's dedication to nature conservation. While there are no large-scale organized events listed, the park is a perfect place for quiet contemplation and nature photography during the peak blossom season.
The park is located near Iwaki Park, specifically about a 5-minute walk west from the area known as 'Sakura no Baba.' Due to its location on the Naka River embankment, the surrounding area offers an expansive and open landscape.
