It is a rare sight, being one of the largest natural cemeteries in Western Japan. Spanning approximately 350 meters along the coast, the sight of roughly 20,000 gravestones creates a profound and unique atmosphere for all visitors.

The site is home to the "Akizaki-to," a stone tower approximately 3 meters in height dating back to the late Kamakura period. This tower features a highly rare architectural style found only near the Akizaki area, serving as an important relic of the region's history. There is also a local legend that the famous writer Lafcadio Hearn (Koizumi Yakumo) once visited this area and wrote about its unique, ethereal atmosphere. It is a precious cultural landscape where nature and history are deeply intertwined.
