Hanabako Memorial Park Tsurumi Ryokuchi is a sprawling 122-hectare urban park situated on the site of the 1990 International Flower and Greenery Exposition (commonly known as the 'Flower Expo'). Originally opened as Tsurumi Ryokuchi in 1972, the park evolved into its current form following the grand exposition. Visitors can enjoy remnants of the Expo, such as the iconic windmills, diverse international gardens, and various areas designed for nature observation. While the park grounds are free to enter, please note that some specific facilities within the park require a separate admission fee.
The history of this park dates back to the 1941 air defense green space project. After officially opening as Tsurumi Ryokchi in 1972, it became the centerpiece for the 1990 International Flower and Greenery Exposition. Following the event, several landmarks were preserved as memorial facilities, including the 'Sakuya Konohana' pavilion, the 'Tower of Life' (observation tower), and windmills inspired by plant seeds. Today, the park serves as a vital green space for the city and a major hub for sports and outdoor recreation.
The park is divided into several distinct areas, each offering a unique experience. The 'Mountain Area' features the Windmill Hill where seasonal flowers bloom, a beautiful Rose Garden, a traditional Japanese garden with an authentic tea room, and an International Garden. The International Garden is particularly famous for offering landscapes inspired by various countries around the world. For nature lovers, the Nature Observation Garden allows for close-up viewing of plants and wildlife. The park maintains a 'Flower Calendar' to track blooming seasons; for example, hydrangeas bloom spectacularly during specific periods. For those with mobility concerns, an electric vehicle bus service is available to transport elderly visitors or those with disabilities (please note that this service does not operate on Mondays or during the New Year holidays).

The park features designated areas for BBQ and camping (up to 2 nights), with rental options available for ingredients, stoves, charcoal, and metal grills. For active visitors, the park provides a horseback riding course, ball fields, athletic fields, a heated swimming pool, and a park golf course. Beyond the International Garden, the park includes the Japanese Garden and the Nature Observation Garden, providing deep cultural and natural immersion. Near the station area, you can also find facilities such as futsal courts, hot spring-style bathing facilities, and dog runs, offering a wide range of recreational experiences.
