Guide
Hakkoda Gordline is a beautifully maintained walking trail named for its unique gourd-like shape. Despite being located in a high-altitude area, the paths are well-developed, allowing visitors to enjoy a casual stroll in light clothing and sneakers. The surrounding area is lush with various alpine plants, offering a close-up view of nature's exquisite craftsmanship.
This route was developed to allow many people to experience the natural environment of the Hakkoda Mountains while preserving the delicate ecosystem. It serves as a vital location for observing the seasonal shifts in plant life, showcasing the unique biodiversity of this high-altitude region through its dense clusters of alpine flora.

The primary draw of this course is the breathtaking sight of alpine wetlands and wildflowers. The dense growth of plants creates a landscape reminiscent of a natural bonsai garden. During the autumn season, the view from the wetland observation deck is particularly spectacular, featuring the 'Kusa-momiji' (grass autumn colors) effect, where the grasses turn golden and crimson.
In the summer, the well-maintained paths are ideal for families looking for an easy outdoor stroll. For the best experience, we highly recommend visiting during the peak autumn foliage season, when the view from the observation deck undergoes a dramatic transformation. Because the plant life changes with every season, your experience will differ depending on when you visit, from fresh spring greenery to vibrant autumn colors.
The main activity is light trekking along the established paths. There are two main options: a 30-minute course (approx. 1.0 km) and a 60-minute course (approx. 1.8 km). Most of the route is relatively flat, making it accessible to a wide range of ages and fitness levels. It is designed as a light recreational activity rather than a strenuous mountain climb.
To reach even higher elevations and enjoy more expansive views, you can use the nearby Hakkoda Ropeway. For those seeking a more serious mountaineering challenge, the Kenashi Paradise Line and the Mt. Odake climbing routes are also available in the vicinity. Please note that these are professional climbing routes and require different equipment and preparation.
Please wear comfortable walking shoes or sneakers, as you will be walking for some time. Because mountain weather can change rapidly, ensure you bring clothing suitable for the current season. For safety, it is recommended to submit a mountain entry form at the Sancho Koen Station. Please carry cash for any necessary procedures or local expenses.
