Hachiro-numa Park is a scenic destination located in Hokuto City, Hokkaido, centered around the man-made Hachiro-numa pond. The park offers a harmonious blend of natural beauty and well-maintained facilities, featuring a perimeter walking path that allows visitors to immerse themselves in the landscape. The origins of this pond date back to around 1880 (Meiji 13). It began as a pond excavated by a person who had retired from the Kaitakushi (Development Commission) and started dairy farming in the Mukaino area, intended to provide water for cattle. Over the years, the ownership and purpose of the pond evolved; during the Taisho era, an expansion plan was even considered to generate revenue through carp cuisine. While various attempts were made to develop the area as a fish farm, these projects faced challenges such as water volume issues. In 1975, a five-year development plan was launched to transform the area into the park it is today. Currently, it serves as a vital community space that preserves the local natural landscape while providing a place for relaxation.
The most striking feature of the park is the view of Hachiro-numa pond centered by the iconic red bridge. A well-maintained walking path circles the water, making it perfect for a leisurely stroll while admiring the lakeside scenery. The pond is also a spot for fishing, as crucian carp (funа) are regularly released here. Seasonal changes offer diverse visual treats: cherry blossoms in spring, trilliums and azaleas in early summer, and floating water lilies on the surface. In autumn, the surrounding trees turn vibrant colors, creating a stunning landscape. Additionally, the annual
