Gono no Kanaiyama-tei is a registered Tangible Cultural Property located in Toyama City, Toyama Prefecture. Originally a grand residence of a wealthy farming family from the Toyama Clan era, this site serves as a museum showcasing traditional Japanese architectural styles, beautiful gardens, and a collection of fine art and historical artifacts. The estate is characterized by its imposing gate and a classic wooden structure with a tiled gabled roof. Inside, visitors can appreciate various artworks and ethnographic materials that serve as vital pieces of the region's cultural heritage.
This residence preserves the lifestyle and architectural elegance of the Toyama Clan era. Currently serving as a branch of the Toyama Prefectural Hall, it functions as a space for cultural events and exhibitions. Beyond its architectural significance, the estate plays a crucial role in preserving local history for future generations. It was officially registered as a National Registered Tangible Cultural Property in 1998.
The estate features a main house showcasing traditional architectural techniques, several farm sheds, and multiple tea rooms. The expansive grounds include a garden meticulously arranged with famous stones and ornamental trees. The 'Ume-en' (Plum Garden) located on the eastern side of the estate is a highlight from mid-to-late March, when the red and white plum blossoms are in full bloom.
