Goko Kinenkan is a precious cultural facility located within Kumamoto University in Kumamoto City, preserving the history of the institution. It displays materials that convey the legacy of the former Fifth High School (Goko) and the development of modern higher education in Japan. The most striking feature is the building itself: a grand, red-brick Western-style structure designated as an Important Cultural Property. The symmetrical design, high arched ceilings, and classic window frames evoke the spirit of the Meiji and Taisho eras, offering a sense of Japan's modernization. Please note that most exhibition rooms are not air-conditioned; if visiting during the summer (July–August), we recommend bringing plenty of water to stay hydrated.
