The Fuji Ajami Line is a scenic road connecting Oyama Town in Shizuoka Prefecture to the Mt. Fuji Susono Trailhead. Because the route traverses high-altitude terrain between 800m and 1,200m, the cherry blossoms bloom later than in the lowlands, making it a perfect destination for late April visitors. The road is lined with approximately 1,150 cherry trees, including Somei Yoshino and Yama Sakura, creating a spectacular pink tunnel. It is widely loved as one of the premier driving routes to witness the majestic silhouette of Mt. Fuji alongside seasonal blossoms.
This area is blessed with the rich natural environment at the base of Mt. Fuji. The cherry trees planted along the route serve to enhance the natural beauty of the mountain, symbolizing the seasonal transitions of the region. The area is also adjacent to a Japan Self-Defense Forces training ground, meaning the landscape is carefully preserved to maintain both natural beauty and regional security.
The highlight of this route is the continuous canopy of blossoms. With about 750 Somei Yoshino and 400 Yama Sakura trees, the density of the flowers creates a vivid pink tunnel. The contrast between the delicate pink petals and the massive, snow-capped or blue-toned Mt. Fuji provides a unique photographic opportunity found nowhere else. As you drive through different elevations, the shifting colors of the sky and the mountain create a dynamic and colorful landscape.
The peak season is late April. Because of the high altitude, you should time your visit for when the blossoms are later than those in the city. For the most vibrant colors, visit during bright daylight hours. Clear, sunny days are highly recommended, as they provide the best visibility for viewing the majestic Mt. and the surrounding scenery.
