Guide
EXPOCITY is a massive multi-purpose complex located within the scenic Expo Park in Suita, Osaka. At its heart is "LaLaport EXPOCITY," a shopping hub featuring approximately 300 diverse stores. Beyond shopping, the complex is a destination for immersive entertainment, boasting unique attractions such as "NIFREL," a cutting-edge museum produced by the famous Kaiyukan Aquarium, and the "OSAKA WHEEL," a spectacular Ferris wheel standing 123 meters tall. It is a place where retail and high-quality experiences coexist.
The site holds significant history, as it was formerly the location of the "Expo Land" amusement park. Following the closure of Expo Land in February 2009, the area was revitalized through a project led by Mitsui Fudosan. Construction began in July 2014, and the new EXPOCITY officially opened its doors on November 19, 2015. The complex underwent a renewal in March 2022 to further enhance its facilities and guest experience.
EXPOCITY offers a wide variety of entertainment options for all ages. A standout attraction is "NIFREL," an innovative museum produced by Kaiyukan that blends art and biology. For a breathtaking view, you can ride the "OSAKA WHEEL," a see-through gondola-style Ferris wheel that reaches a height of 123 meters—one of the tallest in Japan. Other exciting venues include "ENTERTAINMENT FIELD" for the latest gaming, "VS PARK" for high-energy physical challenges inspired by variety shows, the mobile amusement park "ANIPO," and the "109 Cinemas Osaka Expo City" for movie lovers.
EXPOCITY is an ideal destination regardless of the weather, as most attractions are located in climate-controlled indoor areas. While operating hours vary by facility, the general shopping area is open from 10:00 to 20:00 on weekdays, and until 21:00 on Saturdays and Sundays. Visiting in the evening is highly recommended to enjoy the stunning night views from the OSAKA WHEEL or to experience the vibrant atmosphere of the indoor amusement zones.
You can enjoy much more than just shopping. Guests can engage in physical activities at "VS PARK," which uses motion-sensing technology, or experience a unique connection with living creatures at the "NIFREL" museum. For those seeking more active pursuits, the complex also hosts sports-oriented facilities like the indoor skate park, "Murasaki Park." These activities make EXPOCITY a perfect destination for both relaxation and active fun.
Located within the expansive Expo Park, EXPOCITY is surrounded by vast greenery and nature. After a day of shopping and entertainment, visitors can take a relaxing stroll through the park to enjoy the natural scenery and fresh air, making it a perfect way to end your visit.
Because the complex is quite large, we highly recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes. Regarding payments, most major credit cards and transit IC cards (like Suica/Pasmo) are widely accepted, though some smaller shops or specific attractions may require cash. While English signage and basic English support are available, it is a good idea to check specific details in advance. For popular attractions like the Ferris wheel or specific interactive facilities, we recommend checking the official website for any necessary reservations.
