Enoura Observatory is an artistic landscape nestled in the nature of Odawara, conceived and designed by the renowned contemporary artist Hiroshi Sugimoto. Once a tangerine grove, this site has been transformed into a diverse architectural complex featuring galleries, outdoor stages, tea rooms, gardens, and gates. The concept of 'observing the heavens'—a fundamental human pursuit—is expressed here through contemporary art. Visitors can experience a unique space where traditional Japanese architectural styles blend seamlessly with modern sensibilities while feeling the rhythmic cycles of nature and the changing seasons.
This site transcends the definition of a mere art museum; it was established as a place to transmit the essence of Japanese culture. Hiroshi Sugimoto emphasizes the way humans have lived in harmony with nature since the Jomon period, a philosophy reflected in every corner of the architecture.
