Enoshima Samuel Cocking Garden is a beautiful botanical garden located on the slopes of Enoshima Island in Fujisawa City, Kanagawa Prefecture. The garden is home to the Enoshima Sea Candle, a prominent observation lighthouse that offers sweeping views of Sagami Bay and Mount Fuji. Visitors can enjoy a diverse collection of seasonal flowers, remnants of historic greenhouses, and lush tropical plant life. At night, the garden transforms into a magical landscape during the 'Jewel of Shonan' illumination events, where the entire area is bathed in spectacular light.
The garden's origins date back to the Meiji era, founded by the British gentleman Samuel Cocking. It has a rich history as a high-altitude garden, and today, it preserves the legacy of its past through its botanical displays and the architectural remains of its historic greenhouses.
The centerpiece of the garden is the Enoshima Sea Candle, an observation lighthouse providing panoramic vistas. The garden is also characterized by its seasonal displays, including roses and tropical flora. During special event periods, the garden features breathtaking light displays such as the Chandelier Gate and glowing light tunnels, offering a completely different atmosphere than the daytime. For your convenience, the site also includes a cafe, gift shop, and gallery.
The scenery changes beautifully depending on the time of day and the season. During the day, it is a perfect spot for a relaxing stroll to admire the plants and the view of Mount Fuji. After 5:00 PM, the landscape changes during illumination events. The best times to visit are during the blooming seasons for roses and other seasonal flowers, or during the 'Jewel of Shonan' light festivals to experience the magical nighttime scenery.
Visitors can enjoy leisurely walks through the botanical paths, observing various plant species. Activities include ascending the Enoshima Sea Candle for the view and relaxing at the onsite cafe or shop. During illumination events, the garden becomes a premier destination for photography, especially around the light-themed installations. For easier movement around the island, the Enoshima Escar (inclined elevator) is also available.
Enoshima Island features several nearby attractions. Within the garden grounds, you will find the Enoshima Sea Candle, the Enoshima Escar for easy transport, and various cafes and galleries. Other nearby landmarks include the Iwaya Caves and the Enoshima Aquarium, making it easy to plan a full day of exploration.

While English signage is available in many areas, English-speaking staff availability may vary by facility.
