Egawa Seseragi Green Way is a scenic 3km green corridor stretching through the Saedo-cho, Ikebe-cho, and Kawamochi areas of Tsuzuki Ward, Yokohama. This unique space is designed as a waterfront facility utilizing advanced treated water from the Tsuzuki Water Reclamation Center. The path offers a refreshing way to experience nature within the city, with a tranquil waterway running alongside the promenade. The most iconic season is spring, when the landscape is painted with the vibrant colors of Yoshino cherry blossoms and tulips blooming in harmony.
The area has a long history, having served as an agricultural water channel until the 1950s. Today, it has been transformed into a sophisticated waterfront facility that showcases advanced water treatment technology. The project's success in community-based environmental development was recognized when it received the "Handmade Local Identity Award" from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism in 1999. It stands as a symbol of the harmonious cycle of water and greenery within an urban environment.
The greenery along the path features a diverse arrangement of seasonal plants. A particularly striking view can be found near the upper reaches of the Daiichi Keihin Expressway's Kohoku Interchange, where the white-pink Yoshino cherry blossoms and colorful tulips create a vivid color contrast. Well-maintained flower beds line the waterway, showcasing various seasonal blooms. The sight of the flowing treated water provides a unique glimpse into how urban infrastructure and natural beauty can blend seamlessly.
Spring (around March to April) is the most popular time to visit, as visitors come to see the simultaneous blooming of cherry blossoms and tulips. This period offers a spectacular display of color and light. Even outside of spring, the greenery and seasonal flowers make it a lovely place for a stroll. Visiting during the daytime allows you to enjoy the sunlight reflecting off the water and the changing expressions of the plants throughout the day.
The green way is primarily used for leisurely walks and photography. The promenade is designed to be highly accessible, making it easy to navigate with strollers or wheelchairs. Visitors often enjoy the soothing sound of the flowing water while walking or capturing photos of the seasonal flowers. While there are no special programs or entrance fees, it serves as a perfect, accessible space for daily relaxation.
The path winds through the Saedo-cho, Ikebe-cho, and Kawamochi neighborhoods. The surrounding area consists of residential neighborhoods and local commercial facilities, all easily accessible via public transportation. Local shops and amenities can serve as convenient spots to rest or as starting points for your walk.
