Noboribetsu Date Jida Village is a cultural theme park that meticulously recreates the streets and atmosphere of Japan's Edo period. The facility focuses on a faithful reconstruction of the Japanese landscape during the Edo period. The village is composed of buildings that convey historical lifestyles and houses various historical materials, allowing visitors to visually understand the culture of the time. Through these exhibits, you can touch upon traditional Japanese values and the daily way of life through a structured, educational-yet-entertaining layout.
The park offers a wide variety of shows and attractions. For instance, at the "Ninja Kasumi Yashiki," you can witness thrilling ninja shows utilizing clever mechanical gimmicks. At the "Nihon Dento Bunka Gekijo" (Japanese Traditional Culture Theater), the glamorous Oiran show is a must-see highlight. Additionally, the "Oedo Gekijo" features comedic period dramas with mascot characters. Outdoors, at the "Ninja Toride" (Ninja Fortress), you can try your hand at throwing shuriken (ninja stars). Other visually stunning spots include the "Kuma-san Nagaya," which recreates the lives of commoners, and the "Karesansui Hourai-tei," a beautiful dry landscape garden expressing the aesthetics of Japanese culture.
Various events are held depending on the season. During summer vacations, there are often family-oriented events or discount campaigns for costume rentals. Please note that theater performance schedules may change during specific periods, so we recommend checking the official schedule in advance. The bright daylight hours are ideal for strolling through the Edo-style streets, while the late afternoon is the perfect time to enjoy the theatrical shows. The park offers many activities to connect you with traditional Japanese culture. At "Edo-ya," you can enjoy decorating Kokeshi dolls or spinning tops. At the "Experience Dojo," you can try practicing with shuriken or bows and arrows. Furthermore, at the "Utsuroi-kan," you can rent costumes such as Samurai, Ninja, or Buke-musume (warrior daughters) to walk through the village as if you were a resident of the Edo period. These hands-on experiences make Japanese culture feel much more accessible and personal.
Noboribetsu Date Jida Village is located in the famous Noboribetsu Onsen area, known as one of Hokkaido's premier hot spring destinations. The hot spring district is only about a 10-minute drive away, making it easy to enjoy a relaxing soak after your sightseeing. The park is also easily accessible via bus from JR Noboribetsu Station, making it a seamless addition to any Hokkaido travel itinerary.
Since you will be walking around the park, we highly recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes. If you plan to use the costume rental services, please plan your schedule with enough time for changing. While credit cards and transit IC cards may be accepted for certain payments, please confirm the specific payment methods on-site.
