Omine Station is a charming unstaffed station located on the Shimabara Railway in Shimabara City, Nagasaki Prefecture. The station's most striking feature is its direct proximity to the Ariake Sea. Because the platform is simple—lacking a roof or fences—there are virtually no obstructions to your view, creating an immersive sensation as if the platform itself is floating on the sea. During low tide, a vast expanse of tidal flats is revealed, offering a constantly changing landscape shaped by the ebb and flow of the tides.
The surrounding area has a long history of living in harmony with the sea. The landscape is dotted with traditional elements like bamboo used for seaweed cultivation, a characteristic sight of the Ariake Sea. This station gained fame as the cover subject for the book "The Station with a View of the Sea," making it a pilgrimage site for railway enthusiasts and photographers alike.
