Yokohama Cosmo World is a multi-level urban amusement park situated in the heart of the Minato Mirai district in Yokohama, Kanagawa. One of its most unique features is the free admission policy; there is no charge to enter the park, and visitors simply pay for each individual attraction they choose to ride. This offers great flexibility, allowing you to stroll through the park and enjoy specific rides at your own pace. The park is divided into three main areas: the "Wonder Amusement Zone," the "Blano Street Zone," and the "Kids Carnival Zone," making it an ideal destination for families, couples, and groups of friends alike.
The park's origins date back to the "Cosmo World Children's Republic," an exhibit at the 1989 Yokohama Expo. Following the conclusion of the Expo, the decision was made to preserve the iconic giant Ferris wheel, "Cosmo Clock 21," which led to the development of the current amusement park. Originally operating only within the Minato Mirai 23 area, the park eventually expanded across the canal to the Shin-ko district (Area 15). Having grown alongside the development of Yokohama, the park serves not just as an entertainment venue, but as a beloved local landmark.
The centerpiece of the park is the massive Ferris wheel, "Cosmo Clock 21," which stands 112.5 meters tall. It is one of the world's largest Ferris wheels with a built-in clock function and features a spectacular light show at night that looks like scattered jewels. To ensure a comfortable experience regardless of the season, all gondolas are equipped with air conditioning. For thrill-seekers, the park offers high-intensity rides such as the "Banish!" diving coaster and various spinning coasters. Additionally, seasonal limited-edition menus and dedicated photo corners offer wonderful ways to create lasting memories.
During the daytime, you can enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view of the Yokohama cityscape and the ocean. A clear, sunny day is highly recommended for the best views. At night, the park transforms into a romantic destination, with the illuminated Ferris wheel creating a stunning contrast against the city lights. Please note that during busy weekends or peak times, the final boarding for the Ferris wheel may end 15 minutes before the official closing time, so it is wise to plan your visit accordingly.
Beyond the rides, the "Cosmo Court" area offers a variety of delicious street food, including hot dogs, crepes, and ice cream, perfect for a lively park experience. You can also enjoy shopping at various shops, visiting portrait artists, or taking photos at dedicated photo spots throughout the park.
The amusement park is adjacent to several major sightseeing spots in the Minato Mirai district. It offers excellent access to the Nippon Maru Memorial Park and nearby shopping malls, making it easy to enjoy a full day of sightseeing in Yokohama. A stroll along the canal nearby is also a highly recommended way to experience the area.
Since you will be moving between different attraction areas, we recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes. During the summer or on hot days, please consider bringing bottled water to prevent heatstroke. Payments for attractions can be made via cash or electronic money (including various IC cards). While photography is generally permitted, please follow the specific rules and restrictions of each attraction.
