Clematis no Oka is a multifaceted cultural complex nestled on the scenic slopes of Mt. Ashitaka in Numazu, Shizuoka. The facility is composed of several distinct areas, including a museum dedicated to the works of French painter Bernard Buffet, a literary museum celebrating the writer Yasushi Inoue, and various cafes and shops. It is a space where art and nature blend seamlessly to provide a deeply enriching cultural experience.
The facility's history dates back to November 1973, with the opening of the Bernard Buffet Museum and the Yasushi Inoue Literary Museum. The Bernard Buffet Museum showcases a collection of works by the renowned French artist, curated by Kiichiro Okano. To accommodate growing interest, a new wing was added in 1988, followed by a print gallery in 1996. The connection to Yasushi Inoue is also deeply rooted in the history of the site's patrons. For decades, this site has served as a vital hub for promoting regional art and literature.
