Chokai Kogen Yajima Ski Resort is a premier destination located in Yurihonjo City, Akita Prefecture. The resort is highly regarded for its exceptional snow quality, providing a premium experience for skiers and snowboarders. Managed by the local municipality, the facility offers a welcoming environment suitable for everyone from professional enthusiasts to families with young children.
Situated at the foot of the majestic Mount Chokai, this highland ski resort serves as a vital hub for winter sports in the region. The resort's operations change with the seasons, offering both daytime skiing and specialized night skiing sessions. Information regarding seasonal operations and local events is regularly updated through the Yurihonjo City official channels, reflecting the community's dedication to winter tourism.
The resort features several distinct areas, including the challenging Champion Course and the beginner-friendly Family Course. One of the most exciting features is the night skiing (night session) available under specific conditions, allowing visitors to experience the thrill of gliding under the stars. While a snow park is also available, please note that certain areas may be restricted during night sessions, so it is highly recommended to check the current status upon arrival.
The main operating season runs from mid-December to late March. Standard daytime hours are from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. For those looking for a different experience, night skiing is held on specific Saturdays, holidays, or designated weekend days from 5:30 PM to 9:00 PM (last lift at 10:45 PM). Please be aware that night sessions may be canceled due to high winds or adverse weather conditions.
Activities center around downhill skiing and snowboarding. The well-maintained courses are designed to accommodate various skill levels. To keep you warm and energized, the resort provides facilities such as the Koryu Center and the 'Koguma' rest area. Note that the 'Koguma' facility is typically only open on weekends and holidays, and the snow park may have different availability during night sessions.
To make your trip even more comfortable, several accommodation options are located nearby, including Mifune Ryokan, Chokai-so, Hotel Floresta Chokai, Hotel Masaka, Pension Komano Oji, and Honjo Grand Hotel. These establishments allow for a seamless stay while enjoying the winter scenery.
As this is an outdoor winter activity, high-quality thermal clothing and windproof gear are essential. You must have your own ski or snowboard equipment. While there are rest areas like the Koryu Center, availability may change based on weather or snow depth. We strongly recommend checking the official Yurihonjo City website for any recent traffic regulations or weather-related updates before your visit.
