Chichibunomiya Memorial Park is a park surrounded by lush nature, located in Gotemba City, Shizuoka Prefecture. The park was developed on the site of the former villa where Prince and Princess Chichibunomiya lived for approximately 10 years starting in September 1941. The grounds cover an area of about 60,000 square meters (roughly 1.5 times the size of Tokyo Dome). Situated at an altitude of approximately 500 meters, visitors can enjoy refreshing air and breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. Following the wishes of Princess Atsuko Chichibunomiya, who passed away in August 1995, the site was bequeathed to Gotemba City and officially opened in April 2003.
The history of this park is deeply intertwined with the memories of the time the Prince and Princess spent living here. While preserving the historical essence of the former villa, the site has been developed into a space where citizens and visitors can connect with nature. The landscape design and plant arrangements reflect the refined elegance of the former residence, allowing visitors to enjoy a tranquil time while feeling the weight of its historical background.
The park is home to a variety of seasonal flowers and mountain wildflowers that were reportedly loved by the Prince and Princess. The vast grounds feature a beautiful garden that utilizes the natural terrain, offering a different aesthetic with every season. Due to the high altitude, you can enjoy the stunning colors of the flora accompanied by exceptionally clear and crisp air.
You can enjoy different botanical displays throughout the year. The most beautiful periods to visit are March, April, May, October, and November. In spring, you can witness the breath of new life, while autumn offers the deep, rich colors of the changing seasons. The garden looks magnificent under the bright sunlight during the day, while the evening offers a sense of profound serenity and calm.
The park offers several facilities available for rent for exhibitions or training purposes. There are three rooms available: a multipurpose room, a learning room, and a meeting room, which can be used based on your specific needs and duration. Additionally, the park provides professional location photography services (for weddings, coming-of-age ceremonies, Shichi-Go-San, etc.) that utilize the stunning natural scenery as a backdrop for special commemorative photos.
Located in Gotemba City, Shizuoka Prefecture, the park is surrounded by the rich natural environment at the foot of Mount Fuji. When visiting the area, you can experience the unique, peaceful atmosphere that defines this region.
