Byobugaura is a magnificent stretch of coastal cliffs rising dozens of meters above the sea along the coast of Choshi City, Chiba Prefecture. The dynamic landscape was formed by the accumulation of marine sediments millions of years ago, which were subsequently sculpted by the relentless force of ocean waves. The geological layers here were formed between approximately 3 million and 400,000 years ago through the accumulation of sediments such as the Myose and Iioka layers in a marine environment. This area, which was once the seabed, rose above sea level, and the subsequent layering of the Kanto Loam (red volcanic soil) created the unique landscape seen today. The history of this place is a cycle of nature; the sediment eroded from these cliffs has gradually transformed into the sands of the Kujukuri Beach over countless millennia. As a site of immense geological value, Byobugaura is carefully preserved as a cultural heritage site.
