The Nomura Clan Samurai Residence is a historic estate located in a corner of the Nagamachi Samurai District, an area famous for its preserved cobblestone streets and earthen walls. The residence is characterized by its dignified architecture and a beautifully manicured Japanese garden. Its excellence is globally recognized; it was awarded two stars in the 2009 Michelin Green Guide Japon. Furthermore, the garden was ranked 3rd in a 2003 Japanese garden ranking by a prominent U.S. garden magazine, highlighting its world-class beauty.
This residence preserves the architectural style of a samurai residence from the Kaga Clan era. Inside the building, you can view authentic swords and armor associated with the Kaga Clan, providing a rare glimpse into the lifestyle and culture of the samurai. The 'Jodan-no-ma' (upper room) features exquisite sliding door paintings (fusuma-e) created by artists connected to the Kaga Clan, showcasing the seamless integration of architecture and fine art in Japanese tradition.
The greatest attraction is the world-renowned Japanese garden. The garden's appearance changes with the seasons, creating a harmonious landscape with the surrounding architecture that captivates all visitors. Inside the residence, you can observe historically significant swords, armor, and highly detailed decorative paintings. These exhibits offer a tangible connection to the daily lives of the samurai and the high level of culture maintained by the Kaga Clan.
The garden offers a different face to visitors throughout the year. You can enjoy lush greenery in spring and summer, vibrant autumn foliage, and serene snowscapes in winter. The operating hours are 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM from April to September, and 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM from October to March. Please note that you must complete your entry at least 30 minutes before the closing time, so we recommend arriving with plenty of time to spare.

To protect the historical buildings and artifacts, please follow strict etiquette during your visit. Do not touch the exhibits or the building structures.
