The Big Hina Matsuri is a spectacular annual event held in Katsuura, Tokushima Prefecture, typically from February to March. Centered around the Doll Culture Exchange Center, the festival is famous for its grand scale. The most striking feature is the massive 7-meter-tall pyramid-shaped Hina-dan (doll pedestal) and a breathtaking display of more than 20,000 Hina dolls, making it a must-see for lovers of Japanese tradition.
This festival began in 1989 in Katsuura, Tokushima, and has become a cherished local tradition. It is proudly managed by the Doll Culture Exchange Center and the NPO Awa Katsuura Idobata-juku. While other regions like Katsuura in Chiba or Nachi-Katsuura in Wakayama also host similar festivals, the scale and unique pyramid structure of this event make it a distinct cultural landmark of the region.
The centerpiece of the festival is the colossal pyramid-shaped Hina-dan at the Doll Culture Exchange Center.
