Benishidare Jizo Sakura is a magnificent single weeping cherry tree located in Nakada-machi, Koriyama City, Fukushima Prefecture. Standing approximately 16 meters tall with a massive branch spread of 18 meters, this tree is roughly 380 years old. As its name suggests, it is a 'Benishidare' (crimson weeping cherry) variety, and it has been officially designated as a natural monument by Koriyama City. Legendarily known as the 'daughter' of the famous Miharu Takizakura, the tree's overwhelming presence and massive canopy of crimson blossoms create a truly awe-inspiring spectacle every spring.
The tree carries a deep cultural legacy, often referred to as the daughter of the Miharu Takizakura. Beneath the tree sits a Jizo-do (Jizo temple), where locals have long gathered to pray for the health and safety of infants.
