Awaji Yumebutai is a large-scale complex located on Awaji Island in Hyogo Prefecture. Designed by the world-renowned architect Tadao Ando, the facility is meticulously constructed to harmonize with the natural topography and landscape. The site features geometric, modern white structures, expansive lawns, tranquil ponds, and well-maintained walking paths, functioning as a high-end resort destination.
Established in the significant year of 2000, the facility was built with the vision of land regeneration and coexistence with nature. Following Tadao Ando's philosophy, the space was designed to be a place that deeply influences visitors through its relationship with water and greenery. A unique cultural touch is the use of traditional Awaji tiles within the circular roof structures of the courtyard, blending modernism with local heritage.
The complex consists of several areas with distinct architectural characteristics. Notable features include the striking atrium with its soaring vertical space, modern conference facilities, and a multi-layered structure that utilizes the natural terrain. The contrast between the minimalist white architecture and the surrounding lush trees and water creates a unique, immersive spatial experience for every visitor.
While the facility is accessible throughout the year, the scenery changes beautifully with the seasons. From spring to autumn, the manicured walking paths and lawn areas are particularly pleasant for a stroll. A special highlight is the "Yume Piano" (Dream Piano), a street piano that offers a chance to experience live music in a beautiful setting.
