Asahino Yamabiko Kochi is a breathtaking scenic spot located in Kamifurano Town, Hokkaido. It is celebrated as one of the 'Eight Scenic Views of Kamifurano' (Kamifurano Hakkei). This location provides an unparalleled view of the Tokachi-dake mountain range, which appears to rise majestically right before your eyes. The surrounding area is characterized by vast, sprawling farmlands. Situated approximately 7.5 kilometers from Kamifurano Station, the journey through the undulating hills toward the viewpoint is part of the charm, as the landscape shifts beautifully with every turn.
This scenic area is situated at the foot of the Daisetsuzan mountain range. As one of the 'Eight Scenic Views of Kamifurano,' it serves as a vital part of the local cultural landscape, representing the natural beauty that defines this region of Hokkaido.
The primary draw of Asahino Yamabiko Kochi is the close-up view of the Tokachi-dake mountain range. As you reach the designated marker/viewpoint, the massive silhouette of the mountains unfolds before you. Beyond the roadside groves lie vast farmlands, and the experience of driving through the changing scenery—where the mountains seem to gradually approach as you ascend—is a highlight of the visit.
The best time to visit is from April to September. Please note that the area is not accessible during the winter season. Since it is located along a scenic driving route, it is highly recommended to visit during the bright daylight hours to fully enjoy the changing vistas while driving.
Visitors can enjoy the scenery as part of a scenic drive through the Asahino area. A popular route involves turning left from Prefectural Road 291 and driving up the hills, allowing you to witness the landscape transform as you climb.
The spot is located approximately 7.5 kilometers from Kamifurano Station. It sits along the route via Prefectural Road 291, which leads toward the Tokachi-dake Onsen hot spring area.
