Aonoyama is a mountain located in Utazu Town, Kagawa Prefecture, standing at an altitude of 224 meters. The summit features a well-maintained observatory that offers a spectacular panoramic view of the islands scattered across the Seto Inland Sea, the majestic Seto Ohashi Bridge, and the cityscape of Utazu. While it is a lush, natural environment, it is also a popular destination for locals for relaxation, featuring well-maintained walking paths, grassy lawns, and playground equipment, making it ideal for family picnics and light hiking. It is also recognized as one of the "Kagawa Midori Hyakusen" (100 Selected Greenery of Kagawa), highlighting its precious natural beauty.
This region has a long history of coexistence with nature as a 'satoyama' (traditional mountain village landscape), and Aonoyama has been carefully preserved as part of that heritage. The area near the summit also holds historical significance, with references to ancient burial mounds (kofun). Efforts have been made to develop the area so that people can enjoy it as a place of rest while maintaining the natural environment. It remains a vital part of the local cultural landscape, where the calm scenery of the Seto Inland Sea meets historical charm.

The greatest draw of Aonoyama is undoubtedly the view from the summit. The sight of the beautiful islands in the Seto Inland Sea is truly mesmerizing. Additionally, the ability to gaze upon the grand architecture of the Seto Ohashi Bridge is a major highlight. Depending on the season, visitors can enjoy the beautiful rows of cherry blossoms in spring; seeing the bridge through a veil of pink blossoms is a truly exceptional experience. At night, the area transforms into a magical landscape with beautiful night views and the illuminated Seto Ohashi Bridge, offering a different kind of beauty than during the day.
Aonoyama reveals a different face depending on when you visit. In spring (March to May), it is a famous spot for cherry blossoms, where the contrast between the pink flowers and the blue sea is stunning. From summer to autumn, it is a perfect place to enjoy the calm, sparkling waters of the Seto Inland Sea. The best time to visit is during sunset; watching the sun sink into the Seto Inland Sea is a romantic and breathtaking experience. The area is also popular as a night view spot for those who wish to see the landscape illuminated after dark.
There are plenty of ways to enjoy the outdoors, whether you want to stay active or simply relax. You can enjoy hiking along the maintained trails, having a picnic on the grassy lawns near the summit, or letting children play on the playground equipment. Escaping to this natural environment allows you to forget the hustle and bustle of daily life. Spending a peaceful moment with family or friends while soaking in the scenery will surely become a special memory.
The area surrounding Aonoyama offers several interesting spots for exploration. To the south lies Mt. Iino (Iinoyama), known as the "Sanuki Fuji," which offers its own beautiful mountain views. Furthermore, the nearby areas of Utazu and Marugame are excellent for food lovers, offering famous Kagawa specialties like Sanuki Udon. You can easily enjoy a journey through local culture and cuisine alongside the beautiful natural landscapes.
While the ascent to the summit is via walking paths that are relatively easy to navigate, we recommend wearing comfortable clothing and walking shoes (such as sneakers). Depending on the season, it is wise to bring a hat or a light jacket to prepare for changes in weather or temperature. Please note that payments at facilities or parking areas near the summit are typically cash-based. To protect the environment, please follow local etiquette by taking all your trash home with you and avoiding any damage to the local flora.
