The Aomori Prefectural Tourism and Product Center, known as ASPAM, serves as the primary information hub for tourism and local specialties in Aomori Prefecture. Its distinctive triangular silhouette, inspired by the letter 'A' for Aomori, makes it a striking landmark alongside the Aomori Bay Bridge. Inside, visitors can explore the Product Plaza featuring local delicacies, a Tourism Plaza for travel information, and a 360-degree observation deck. It is a comprehensive base to experience the culture, food, and scenery of Aomori in one place.
Constructed in 1986 as part of the Aomori Port redevelopment project, the building's unique architectural design is highly acclaimed, having received the Tohoku Architecture Award from the Architectural Institute of Japan. The name 'ASPM' is an acronym for Aomori, Sightseeing, Products, and Mansion, symbolizing the center's mission to showcase the charms of the region.
The highlight of the facility is the observation room located on the 13th floor. From here, you can enjoy a breathtaking 360-degree panoramic view of Aomori Port and the surrounding landscape. The Product Plaza is a perfect spot for souvenir shopping, offering a wide variety of high-quality local goods. Additionally, the facility includes restaurants and multi-purpose rooms where you can dive deeper into Aomori's culinary traditions and local information.
ASPAM offers different charms depending on the season and time of day. In August, you can feel the intense energy of the Aomori Nebuta Festival nearby. During the day, the observation deck provides clear, beautiful views of Aomori Port. As evening approaches, the building and the nearby Bay Bridge are beautifully illuminated, offering a stunning nightscape that changes character with the time of day.
Beyond shopping and information gathering, you can engage in cultural experiences. The facility occasionally hosts events such as Tsugaru Shamisen performances, allowing you to hear the traditional sounds of the region. You can also directly experience Aomori's rich food culture by sampling local dishes at the onsite restaurants or purchasing regional specialties at the plaza.
The area around ASPAM has been developed as part of the Aomori Port redevelopment zone. The nearby Aomori Bay Bridge is a key part of the local scenery. The location is also close to the ferry terminal, making it a scenic area for coastal sightseeing. It is easily accessible to other sightseeing spots in Aomoli City via car, bus, or taxi.
While the indoor environment is comfortable, we recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes for moving around the facility and the observation deck.
