The plateau, sitting at an altitude of approximately 300 meters, boasts a unique landscape where white limestone outcrops are scattered across lush green grasslands. This terrain originated from coral reefs in a warm southern sea, which were eventually uplifted through geological movements. Over 350 million years, the relentless action of rainwater has sculpted the beautiful topography seen today. The white limestone rocks dotting the vast meadows often resemble a flock of sheep, creating a stunning natural art piece.

The history of Akiyoshidai is rooted in a geological timeline far longer than human history. Once part of a warm sea, the area was uplifted by tectonic plate movements and the accumulation of limestone. The limestone, primarily composed of calcium carbonate, has been shaped by rainwater containing carbon dioxide. This acidic water has slowly dissolved the rock over millions of years, creating unique landforms such as 'dolines' (sinkholes) and more advanced formations like 'uvalas' and 'poljes.' Preparation is essential for a safe and enjoyable visit. Due to the nature of the terrain, please be extremely careful around 'dolines' (depressions in the ground). These holes can be very deep and may not be visible from certain angles; always stay on the maintained paths. Avoid approaching areas with fences or unusual vegetation.
