Opened on April 20, 1994, the Akita Museum of Art is a premier institution representing the cultural richness of Akita Prefecture. Situated within the scenic Akita Furusato Village, the museum is nestled in a lush, natural environment. The collection features a significant array of works, most notably the "Akita Ran-ga"—Western-style paintings created by the Akita lords and their retainers during the mid-to-late Edo period—as well as modern Japanese and Western paintings. The museum's architecture is a work of art in itself; the 5th floor is dedicated to special exhibitions, while the 6th floor houses the permanent collection. A unique feature of the building is the way visitors move between the two main structures via an escalator enclosed in a striking glass tube, offering a seamless transition through light and space.

The museum is open from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM.
