AEON MALL Okinawa Rycom is a massive, multi-functional-complex located in Chatan, Okinawa. Built on the site of a former US military base, it is more than just a shopping center; it is designed as a true 'Resort Mall.' The facility hosts approximately 200 specialty stores ranging from fashion and lifestyle goods to various gourmet dining options. The enormous food court, boasting 2,200 seats, is designed to accommodate large families and crowds of tourists comfortably.
The name 'Rycom' is derived from the site's history as the former Ryukyu Command headquarters. Since its opening in 2015, it has become a central hub for people across Okinawa Island. The area's history is deeply woven into the facility; for instance, the local address was changed to 'Aza Rycom' in 2019. Visitors can also find Shisa statues and stone monuments that tell the story of the local community, allowing you to feel the essence of Okinawa even within a modern commercial setting.

A standout feature is the 'Rycom Aquarium,' a large-scale water tank rarely seen in commercial malls. With a volume exceeding 100 tons, it offers a rare opportunity to observe large marine life, such as requiem sharks and Napoleon fish, up close. Additionally, the outdoor spaces, including the 'Rycom Village' designed by professional garden designers, enhance the resort atmosphere. It is a place where you can enjoy an experience akin to visiting an aquarium while shopping.
While the mall operates year-round, it hosts various seasonal events and sales. For example, during the summer, special campaigns like 'COOOOOOL Opening' are often held. While the daytime offers a bright, resort-like vibe, the atmosphere shifts in the evening, making it a relaxing place for dinner. Please note that individual store hours may differ from the general facility hours (10:00 AM – 10:00 PM), so checking ahead is recommended.
From local Okinawan delicacies to international cuisine, the food options are endless. The 2,200-seat food court allows you to sample a wide variety of flavors in one place. Beyond shopping for the latest trends and Okinawan specialties, you can enjoy leisure activities like watching movies at the on-site cinema. The facility also includes a post office, providing great convenience for travelers needing to send mail.
AEON MALL Okinawa Rycom is centrally located on Okinawa Island, approximately 40 minutes by car from Naha Airport. The surrounding area, including Chatan, is a popular destination for sightseeing and is easily accessible via rental car. It is a perfect stop on a driving route, perhaps before heading to the nearby coastal areas.
The facility is very large and spans multiple floors, so wearing comfortable walking shoes is highly recommended. Payments can be made via cash, credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, etc.), and various electronic money/mobile payments. While many shops and information desks offer English-language support, it is best to check with individual stores for specific details. Parking and bicycle parking are available for free, but please ensure you are using the facilities for mall patronage.
