Achi Village is located in the western part of Shimoina District, Nagano Prefecture. In 2006, the village recorded high values in the 'National Continuous Starry Sky Observation' organized by the Ministry of the Environment, proving its night sky brightness is ideal for star observation. Based on this achievement, the village promotes tourism under the title of 'Japan's Best Starry Sky,' with the 'Starry Sky Night Tour' being a major draw for many visitors. Beyond stargazing, the area offers hot springs, beautiful nature, and various seasonal activities.
The region possesses deep historical roots. There are legends of Prince Inryo dying in the Nariai district during the Nanboku-cho period, and the area features historical terrain such as the Kamisaka Pass. Furthermore, there is a historical connection to Saicho, the founder of the Tendai sect, who is said to have established the 'Koseiin' shelter to assist travelers navigating the rugged paths of the Tozan-do. Today, this history blends with modern culture, including new initiatives like the 'Star Meister' certification exam.

The centerpiece of Achi Village tourism is celestial observation. At Heavens Sono-hara SNOW WORLD, specialized starry sky night tours are conducted. The area also has a deep-rooted hot spring culture, with locations such as Hirugami Onsen and Tsukikawa Onsen. Other historical sites include Chogakuji Temple in Komaba, associated with the end of Takeda Shingen's life, the Nariai-juku post town that retains its historical atmosphere, and various local shrines like Kamisaka Shrine.
Achi Village shows different faces throughout the year, but stargazing is most highly recommended during the night. The Starry Sky Night Tours take place in the crisp, clear night air. Additionally, since the area features snow resorts (such as Heavens Sono-hara SNOW WORLD and Araragi Kogen Ski Resort), the combination of winter snowscapes and starry skies is a unique highlight. From spring to autumn, you can enjoy seasonal scenery such as the cosmos gardens at Jibusaoka Kogen.

There are many experiences centered around stargazing. The village has unique initiatives like the 'Achi Village Star Meister' certification to deepen astronomical knowledge and the issuance of the local 'Star Coin' currency. Visitors can also enjoy relaxation at hot springs, winter sports like skiing and snowboarding, and nature walks.
The village includes areas such as Hirugami Onsen, Tsukikawa Onsen, and Jibusaoka Pass, which serve as hubs for enjoying the natural terrain and hot spring resources. The area is surrounded by rich natural environments, bordering neighboring municipalities and Gifu Prefecture.

When participating in stargazing, please prepare clothing suitable for dropping temperatures at night. It is highly recommended to bring heavy, warm clothing for outdoor night activities. When using hot spring facilities, please follow local rules and etiquette. If you are joining a starry sky tour, it is advisable to check the schedule and reservation requirements in advance.
