Able Hakuba Goryu Ski Resort, located in Hakuba Village, Nagano Prefecture, is a premier ski and snowboard destination designed to accommodate a wide range of skill levels. Visitors can enjoy downhill runs set against the magnificent backdrop of the Northern Alps, making it a favorite for everyone from beginners to highly experienced riders. The resort's base center, "Escarp Plaza," is a massive facility spanning from the basement to the 3rd floor, serving as a complete hub for your stay with various shops, restaurants, and even hot spring facilities.
This area has long been recognized as a symbol of winter sports in Japan. The stunning snowy landscapes have even been used as filming locations for movies. The region also boasts a rich sporting culture, having hosted historical snowboard endurance races. Beyond sports, the area is known for hosting unique experiences, such as hot air balloon weddings, offering a magical way to experience the snowy mountains.

The resort features a diverse array of courses to suit different abilities. The area around the "Toomi Slope," located directly in front of the base center, is highly convenient for taking breaks or preparing for a run. A highlight of the facility is the "Ryujin no Yu" hot spring within Escarp Plaza, where you can soothe your muscles and relax after a day of riding. Additionally, the natural beauty of the Alpine Plain area, featuring seasonal alpine plants, provides a captivating experience for visitors during the warmer months.
The peak season for enjoying the high-quality snow and diverse terrain is winter (December to April). For the best conditions and consistent snow volume, January, February, and March are highly recommended. The resort opens early—at 7:00 AM on weekends and 7:30 AM on weekdays—allowing you to enjoy the tranquility of the slopes in the early morning. During the summer green season, the area is perfect for observing alpine flora and enjoying nature walks.

Beyond skiing and snowboarding, there are many ways to enjoy your visit. Utilizing the amenities at Escarp Plaza—such as relaxing in the hot springs, shopping, or enjoying a coffee at a cafe—is essential to a full resort experience. Whether you are looking for high-energy sports like the endurance races held in the past or a relaxing retreat in nature, the resort offers a versatile way to spend your time depending on the season and your mood.
