The museum's origins are deeply tied to Yoshio Yonemura, the discoverer of the Moyoroi Shell Mounds, who established the foundation with support from the Sumitomo Group to prevent the loss of precious artifacts. The museum is open year-round, but please note that closing times change depending on the season. From May to October, the museum closes at 5:00 PM, and from November to April, it closes at 4:00 PM. Visiting while considering the seasonal atmosphere and the striking presence of the historic architecture is highly recommended.

To protect the precious artifacts, please refrain from touching any exhibits. Please check the closing times in advance, as they change: 5:00 PM during the summer (May–Oct) and 4:00 PM during the winter (Nov–Apr). Admission is 120 JPY for adults and 60 JPY for children; please bring cash as payment is primarily handled in Japanese Yen. For accessibility, wheelchairs are available for loan, and please check the onsite signage for information regarding ramps and multi-purpose restrooms.
