Located in Tsuno Town, Koyu District, Miyazaki Prefecture, Tsuno Jinja is a historic shrine of great significance. The annual Summer Festival is a vital cultural event that preserves local history and traditions. During the festival, a magnificent, golden-colored Mikoshi (portable shrine) parades through the town alongside the local community.
The centerpiece of this festival is the parade of the golden Mikoshi. Watching the shimmering shrine move through the streets offers a unique view of local tradition. You can also experience the energetic atmosphere of Japanese summer through the rhythmic chants of four large Taiko floats and traditional rituals. No prior reservation is required to attend or view the festival. However, if you wish to see the Mikoshi parade or specific rituals from a close vantage point, we recommend arriving at the venue early.
As the festival is held in the heat of summer, please wear breathable clothing and bring a hat, a parasol, and plenty of water to stay hydrated. Comfortable walking shoes are highly recommended for outdoor activities. When entering the shrine grounds, please maintain proper etiquette as it is a sacred space.
