Guide
Located in Morioka City, Iwate Prefecture, Tsunatori Dam hosts a special illumination event for a limited time. The lights are directed at the dam's massive structure to create a breathtaking nocturnal landscape. While the dam serves a functional purpose during the day, the illumination reveals a completely different, artistic side of its architecture at night.
The main attraction is the sight of the colossal dam structure glowing in the darkness. The contrast between the artificial light and the surrounding natural environment offers a unique visual experience unlike anything seen during the day. It is a perfect way to spend a peaceful evening observing the interplay of light and shadow in a quiet, natural setting.
The event runs for 11 days from July 21, 2026, to July 31, 2026. Please note that the specific time the lights turn on may vary depending on the weather and sunset time on the day of your visit. We recommend checking local conditions upon arrival.
The event takes place around the Tsunatori Dam area in Morioka, Iwate. As the area is surrounded by nature, it becomes very dark at night. Please be extremely careful when walking to avoid tripping. We recommend checking local road conditions and parking availability in advance if you are driving.
To fully enjoy the illumination, prepare for the dark environment. To capture the best photos of the dam's structure, consider using a camera with a dedicated night mode or a tripod (please use it discreetly without disturbing others). Since the event takes place in late July, be mindful of potential weather changes.
