Uenohara Jomon no Mori in Kagoshima Prefecture is hosting the "Tsukutte Dokidoki Experience," a special summer program. This hands-on event goes beyond simple observation, allowing participants to work directly with tools and ornaments used during the Jomon period.

The theme for this second session is "Making Jomon Accessories: The Karo Bracelet." Participants will craft 'Karo' (shell bracelets), a type of accessory worn by people in the Jomon era, using natural materials such as deer antlers and stones. It is a rare opportunity to feel the textures of nature while experiencing ancient techniques and culture.

Participation Details

This event is designed for one participant accompanied by one guardian. Capacity is limited to 15 groups, and advanced reservation is required. Please note that if applications exceed capacity, a lottery system will be used to select participants.

Eligibility: This program is for children in 3rd grade of elementary school or above. While the child takes the lead in the crafting process, the program is designed with support for guardians in mind. Since you will be handling natural materials, a focused environment is provided for the children.

As you will be working with natural materials and tools, we recommend wearing comfortable clothing that you don't mind getting slightly dirty.
