The Tessin Calligraphy Exhibition is hosted by the Tessin Calligraphy Research Society (led by Rasan Miyake) based in Kasai City, Hyogo Prefecture. This event is a multi-generational celebration of the art of calligraphy, showcasing not only the disciplined mastery of professional members but also the vibrant, fresh works of students ranging from elementary to high school, as well as children as young as five years old. Now in its 5th year, this exhibition serves as a beloved cultural hub for the local community.
The main draw is the commanding presence of the large-scale masterpieces created by Rasan Miyake, the head of the Tessin Calligraphy Research Society. His works, such as the powerful depictions of characters like 'Umi' (Sea) and 'Tanjitsu', are truly breathtaking in their intensity and brushwork. A unique feature of this exhibition is the opportunity to view sophisticated, professional-grade calligraphy alongside the earnest, spirited works of children. This contrast allows visitors to feel both the deep complexity of the art form and the passion of the next generation.
The exhibition runs from March 27 to March 30. The viewing hours are from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, but please note that on the final day (March 30), the venue will close at 4:00 PM. Please plan your visit accordingly to ensure you have enough time to enjoy the art.
The event is held at the Koryu Plaza located on the 3rd floor of Astia Kasai in Hojo-cho, Kasai City, Hyogo Prefecture. The venue provides a calm and serene environment, perfect for focused appreciation of the art.
Admission to this event is free of charge. Even if you are not an expert in calligraphy, you can intuitively enjoy the energy and visual impact of the pieces. Most works are displayed in traditional frames (hyoso), allowing you to appreciate them as finished, high-quality works of art.
As this is a space for quiet contemplation, please maintain a respectful volume while viewing. To protect the delicate artworks, please do not touch any of the exhibits. There is no specific dress code, though comfortable, modest attire is recommended for a peaceful viewing experience.
