Event Overview

The Takamiya Noryo Fireworks Festival is celebrated as one of the earliest summer festivities in Shiga Prefecture. With a rich history dating back to the Meiji era, this traditional event has been held for over 100 years. It is a beloved local tradition that signals the end of the rainy season and the true start of summer in the lakeside region.

Highlights & Experience

The main attraction is the dynamic display that utilizes the natural topography of the Inugami River. The starmines, launched from multiple locations (including 3-point and 5-point setups), create an overwhelming scale of light and sound. The show features approximately 3,950 fireworks, including countdown shells, special "Kawari" variety fireworks, and intricate mechanical displays that will captivate every spectator. It is a stunning work of art unfolding over the flowing river.

Schedule

The festival takes place on August 8. The display begins with an ignition ceremony at 19:30 and is expected to reach its grand finale around 20:30. Be sure to arrive in time to enjoy the full intensity and beauty of the continuous launches.

Venue & Access

The venue is the riverside area upstream from Muchin Bridge along the Inugami River. Access from nearby stations is as follows:

  • Omi Railway: Approximately a 10-minute walk from Takamiya Station
  • JR Line: Approximately a 20-minute walk from Minami-Hikone Station
  • By Car: Approximately 20 minutes from the Hikone Interchange via highway

Tips for Visitors

The riverside provides a perfect natural setting to watch the fireworks while feeling the atmosphere of a traditional Japanese summer night. Please note that there is no dedicated parking available for this event, so we highly recommend using public transportation to reach the venue.

What to Bring & Etiquette

As the event is held outdoors on a riverbank at night, please dress appropriately for the season and the evening temperature. To ensure the safety of the fireworks display, the use of drones is strictly prohibited. Please follow local etiquette to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.
