This is a regular Shakyo (sutra copying) program held at Ryotan-ji in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka Prefecture. Ryotan-ji is a significant temple associated with the history of the Ii family and the famous female feudal lord of the Sengoku period, Ii Naotora (Jiro Hoshi). In this program, participants practice the meditative act of carefully transcribing Buddhist scriptures within the tranquil environment of the temple's guest hall.
The essence of Shakyo lies in the process of stepping away from daily life and focusing one's mind by carefully writing each character of the sutra.
