"Spooky Summer Storytelling & Mini Workshop" is a special seasonal event for children hosted by the Shimanto City Library in Kochi Prefecture. This popular annual program is designed to give children a thrilling and memorable experience.
More than just a simple reading session, this event includes a hands-on workshop to bring the stories to life. After the storytelling, participants can create their own 'ghost-themed' mini hand fans (uchiwa), fostering creativity and a deeper connection to the stories. It is a wonderful opportunity for children to experience the traditional Japanese culture of 'kaidan' (ghost stories) and 'obake' (spirits/ghosts) in a friendly, approachable way.
The main attraction is the immersive storytelling experience. The collection of popular spooky tales will transport children into a mysterious and thrilling world, allowing them to feel the traditional atmosphere of a Japanese summer.
Following the stories, the workshop offers a chance to create a physical souvenir. By making a ghost-shaped mini hand fan, children can take a piece of the story home with them. Watching children focus on their crafts and share the sense of achievement upon completion is part of the joy of this event.
